Harnessing artificial intelligence (AI) can help organisations significantly accelerate their sustainability progress, according to a new report.
A survey of more than 650 organisations by the Project Management Institute (PMI), found that those successfully integrating AI into their sustainability strategies are achieving outcomes three times better.
Companies combining AI and sustainability reported an average 26% reduction in carbon emissions, compared to 3% among those treating their AI and environmental initiatives separately.
Around 31% of advanced AI adopters also report success in energy efficiency efforts, compared to 8% of early-stage users.
PMI president and chief executive Pierre Le Manh said: “When embedded into sustainability strategy with strong leadership, clean data and cross-functional collaboration, AI creates a virtuous cycle of impact and reinvestment.”
